Who am I? – Finding my identity in Christ

Who am I?

Finding my identity in Christ.

From the moment we are born, we are given a name and a surname and are born into a family and culture. This is the beginning of our identity. Or is it?
If we are to know who we are then we need to know our Creator and what He says about us.

Lesson 1: My identity is found in God
(Psalm 139:13-16)

If you were looking for your school lunch, the obvious place to look would be your lunch box and definitely not under the car! When it comes to looking for who we are and what our identity is there is an obvious place we should look, the God who created us!

Lesson 2: God knows me
(Psalm 139:1-6)

Have you ever felt that nobody understands you or that your experiences are unique? No matter what we go through, there is someone who knows us and understands what we are going through and that friend is Jesus! Our identity is that we are known by God.

Lesson 3: I am made in God’s image
(Genesis 1:26-27)

How incredible is it to know that we are the image of God and we get to reflect His image to the world? God thinks, loves and feels emotions and we are made to think, love and feel emotions just like Him. The Holy Spirit who leads us and helps us to be more like God.

Lesson 4: I am chosen by God
(1 Peter 2:9)

God has chosen you to be His, he made it possible for you to be forgiven and to be close with Him. He chose you to tell others about Him. This is your identity! Paul knew that he didn’t deserve to be chosen but Jesus makes it possible.

Lesson 5: I am loved by God
(Ephesians 3:18)

When we believe in what Jesus did for us, the Bible says we are forgiven. We become citizens of God’s Kingdom. God loves us so much that He calls us “adopted”. Everything that is His becomes ours and that cannot be taken back!

Lesson 6: I am God’s masterpiece
(Ephesians 2:10)

God calls us His “masterpiece”. We are made His masterpiece by the most perfect creator of them all, Jesus. Nothing we do makes us into a masterpiece except believing in and following Jesus.

Lesson 7: I have a purpose
(Ephesians 2:10)

There are so many stories in the Bible of people doing the things God has planned for them. The exciting thing is that God has plans and purposes for our lives too! Spending time with Jesus in prayer and in the Word helps us to know what those plans and purposes are.

Lesson 8: I belong and fit into God’s family
(Ephesians 4:16)

Sometimes we can feel like a rubber ducky in a pond full of swans, like we don’t belong. But God says that we do belong in His Kingdom and fit into His family.

Lesson 9: I am a child of God
(1 John 3:1)

It is so important for us to know who God says we are. We are children of God and that is who we are! And when we realise our identity, we are secure and can stand firm! Nothing and no one can move us or confuse us.
